Blessings and Needs

We have had another wonderful month at LCS.  God continues to bless our school through the generous donation of time and resources from our parents.  Spiritually, He is working in the hearts and lives of our students.  In the days leading up to the retreat, during the retreat and days after the retreat, ten (10) young people accepted Christ as their personal Savior.  It is exciting to see God work and bless.

We have begun our community service projects with our kindergarten class sections partnering with Mercy Christian School in Thailand to provide school uniforms for those students who cannot afford to purchase one.  The missionary and founder of the school is an LCS graduate.  Please see the letter that our kindergarten teachers have sent home to their parents for more details.  Also, our tenth grade class recently went to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and gave out stuffed animals to the children in the Cancer Ward.  We will keep you updated on the myriad of other projects our classes will be participating in this year.  We look forward to seeing the impact these projects have in our community and world, and in the hearts and lives of our students.

We again have had several parents and supporters of LCS contribute in significant ways to make a difference:

  1. Ms. Tene Tarver, son Darien – 10th grade, donated $500 to our cheerleaders to assist them in purchasing new uniforms.
  2. The Hogan family donated $100 in honor of the memory of Kimberly Mickles Jennings (Class of 1994) who passed away after a battle with cancer.  This young lady made a huge impact on those around her during her life.
  3. A special thank you to a friend of Lighthouse Ministries and brother in our church, Dan Zimmerly, for donating his time and the materials to completely refurbish the walls, trim and baseboards in the auditorium hallway.
  4. Our new Beautification Team has really made a difference on our campus.  They have spent time weeding flowerbeds, planting new flowers and generally improving the appearance of the campus.  Would you be willing to join the two members who have begun assisting us in this area?  This could be accomplished on your own schedule, and a few hours a week could make a huge difference.
  5. We received a check from Target for $176.21 because many parents and supporters have used their Red Card for purchases and have named our school as the recipient.
  6. We are having a competition in the elementary to see who can bring in the most Box Tops for Education.  We have already received a good amount, and the school receives 10 cents for every Box Top we collect.
  7. We have over 4000 points from Campbell’s Soup Labels.  Please continue to send them in with your child.  These points can be used toward new equipment for classrooms and additional educational materials to enhance your child’s education.
  8. We are also collecting Tyson A+ labels and used cell phones and printer cartridges.  All of these items can be submitted for additional funds for the school.

We are pleased at all that God is providing to help us improve the facilities and enhance the educational opportunities for your child.  We want Lighthouse to be a school that you and your child can be proud of but more importantly is experiencing God’s blessings.  Thank you for all you are doing to continue to help our school improve.  We greatly appreciate all the support we are receiving from both parents and students.  As we work together, God can truly reach the hearts of your children.

We have some needs we would like you to pray and consider what God may have you do to assist our school in becoming all that God has for us.

  1. We need some six (6) foot tables that are made out of the indestructible white plastic.  We could use ten (10) of these tables.  I know they are available at Sam’s and Office Depot for around $60 each.  Would you be able to purchase one or more of these tables for our school?
  2. We are still in need of some funds for the renovation and upgrade to the MS/HS Computer Lab.  One lab station cost approximately $1200, and we need the funds for ten (10) more stations.  Would you consider donating funds to help purchase one of these stations?  Maybe you could sponsor an entire station?  No gift is too small and everything donated will go to making our school’s computer lab one that we can all be proud of.
  3. We are still in need of members for our Beautification Committee.  This is an investment of a few hours of your time a week to assist us in maintaining and improving our grounds.  If you are interested, please call Mr. Sweatt at 331-6286 ext. 221.
  4. We are in need of some dual deck VCR/DVD players.  If you would be interested in purchasing one for the school, please drop it off at the school office.
  5. Finally, we have enclosed a Volunteer Flyer in this mailing.  Please take the time to consider how you can serve our school.  We need each parent that is able to select an area or areas in which they would be interested in serving and return it to their child’s respective school office.  Signing and returning this form is not a commitment but places you on our volunteer call list.  When an opportunity comes available, we will contact you and you can decide if you will be able assist.

There are many opportunities for you to continue to make a difference.  Please consider how you might be able to assist us.  Thank you for your love, care and support.
