TESTING and SPECIAL SERVICES

EDUCATIONAL SERVICES OFFERED AT LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Lighthouse Christian School administers the Stanford Achievement Test in late March or early April. The testing usually involves about 2 -2½ hours each morning during that week. A copy of each student’s test results are sent home in June with the final report card. Students in K5-11th grade take the SAT and students in 4th-11th grade also take the OLSAT. Each LCS senior is required to take the SAT or ACT before receiving a diploma.

ASSESSMENT
Evaluations include standardized testing of intelligence and academic performance, as well as additional screening for determining the specific nature of literacy. Classroom observations are conducted on an as-needed basis. Recommendations for intervention plans will be addressed.

INSTRUCTION
One–to-one instruction is offered by skilled personnel in the Educational Services Department. Instructional programs include reading readiness training for pre-K and kindergarten age children, remediation of reading and writing difficulties, study skills training, general academic support, and computer – assisted instruction. Tutoring is available during the day and evenings at the Center.

TEACHER AND PARENT TRAINING
Informational seminars are available on a number of topics related to literacy and learning, including presentations on specific learning disabilities and workshops for teachers in reading, spelling, content area literacy and study skills instruction. Special training in reading and writing instruction is available for parents teaching their children in the home. Many of the programs provided by the Educational Services Department are open to the public.
